This fantasy book is a refreshing take on the typical underdog story, avoiding fantasy clichés and instead delivering well-paced twists that keep the reader entertained with a mix of humor, action, embarrassing situations, and gravity. The initial plot may seem familiar, but this book quickly stands out as it playfully subverts expectations and keeps the reader engaged until the very end.
Going on a suicide mission against Michael and flirting with a woman, are two really different things. One requires years of training, a quick mind and a complete lack of self-preservation. The other just requires Michael.

We all have this glorious moment in our life where we shine by our outfit as much as by our actions. This moment when each seam of your costume perfectly highlights the extent of your capacities, when your rank shines through the details of the linings and when the colors mirror your function. Everyone is looking at you, knowing that you either accomplished something great, or are about to. Well, that wasn't the case for me because all I wore was my underwear and a quickly assembled cloth mask around my face.

I basically swallowed this novel! From the first until the last page this book is full of excitement and pure entertainment. You don’t only get wonderful emotional parts but also pure action and super funny moments. I don’t think I have ever laughed or chuckled as much reading a fantasy novel than with this one. The action parts left me with a high heartrate and accelerated my reading speed as well.
The author created protagonists with whom you can relate, he spans the story with lots of wit and thoughtfulness.
Overall 10/10 recommendation. Can’t wait for the second book!
As a Harry Potter fan I love its closeness to it and I appreciate the realistic approach yo magic (kind if ironic to write this). The way of telling the story is super engaging, love the humor in all the details. I will read it multiple times.
